Student Veterans of America® (SVA) is the premier organization leading service, research, programs, and advocacy for veterans in higher education. SVA elevates the academic, professional, and personal development of veterans in higher education through chapter programs and services, outcomes and impacts research, and advocacy at every level. With a mission focused on empowering student veterans, SVA is committed to providing an educational experience beyond the classroom.

Student Veterans of America Chapter at Carson-Newman University (CNSVA) was started in the fall of 2022 and is a chartered student organization on campus. The primary mission of CNSVA is to provide support, resources, and advocacy to veterans, service members, and eligible dependents currently enrolled as students of Carson-Newman University to ensure their success in higher education. This mission will be met through several goals: 

  • Foster and develop a social network for student veterans service members and their eligible dependents.
  • Provide outreach services to student veterans, service members and their eligible dependents. 
  • Work with other military veterans organizations to overall enhance benefits and services provided to student veterans, service members and their eligible dependents. 
  • Actively pursue opportunities in which to serve the University and the local community by hosting, attending, or participating in campus and local military recognition events. 

To be eligible for membership, you must fall into one of the following three categories:

  1. Active: Any student enrolled in at least one credit with the Carson-Newman University who is a veteran, reservist, National Guard, active-duty service member or a dependent who uses Veteran Administration educational benefits. 
  2. Alumni: Any former student who has graduated from Carson-Newman University who is a veteran, reservist, National Guard, or active-duty service member may be an alumni member. 
  3. Honorary: Any veteran that does not fall into the above two categories, to include but not limited to, faculty/staff and any member of the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) at Carson-Newman University.
