Concert Band Camp

concert band camp

The Concert Band Camp offers a week of music-making for students in grades 6–12 who have at least one year of playing experience. Students rehearse in full ensemble and sectional settings while developing tone, technique, and musical artistry under the guidance of university faculty and guest conductors. The camp concludes with a public concert showcasing all ensembles. Students are placed in an appropriate ensemble level after a short audition during check-in, so each camper is challenged and supported.

This camp features four ensemble tracks to ensure each student is challenged appropriately:

  • Beginning Band: For students with one year of playing experience, focusing on fundamental skills, ensemble playing, and musical confidence.
  • Intermediate Band: For students with approximately two to three years of experience, emphasizing tone development, intonation, and expressive playing.
  • High School Band: For students with four or more years of experience, offering advanced literature, musical interpretation, and leadership within a full wind ensemble setting.
  • Honors Chamber Winds: By invitation only, this advanced track provides select students the opportunity to perform in small chamber groups. The week emphasizes individualized instruction, musical collaboration, and chamber musicianship for a highly personalized and artistically focused experience.

Middle (6-8) and high school (9-12) band students (woodwind, brass, and percussion) who want to improve musicianship, technique, and ensemble skills in a motivating environment.
