The Music Department at Carson-Newman University is thrilled to hold its first-ever High School Honor Choir! This event is open to high school choral students from all around the greater Knoxville and C-N regions for a two-day choral session happening October 4th and 5th in the Tarr Music Center on campus.
What is the cost? The Honor Choir weekend costs $30 dollars per student, which includes lunch on Saturday, music and a commemorative T-shirt to wear for the concert on Saturday afternoon.
When does it run? Rehearsal runs 2-5 pm on Friday, October 4th and 9:30 AM-4 PM on Saturday, October 5th, with a concert at 4:30 PM in Thomas Recital Hall of Tarr Music Center. The final registration date is September 23rd.
What should students wear and bring? Casual school attire is fine for both days. For the Saturday concert, students should wear jeans or comfortable pants and shoes. All students will wear the Honor Choir shirt for the concert.
What songs will we sing? We’ll sing the following four pieces:
Additionally, students have the opportunity to audition for a vocal solo or small ensemble to sing at the concert! Auditions for solos will be held at the end of Friday’s activities. You must bring sheet music for our pianist to play. We anticipate providing 3-4 featured solos for the Saturday concert.
Whom can I reach out to with questions I might have? You can email Dr. Brandon Hollihan, Carson-Newman Director of Choral Activities, at bhollihan@cn.edu
