Elementary Education (Non-Licensure)

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Elementary Education (Non-Licensure) program is designed for students interested in working with children in educational and community settings outside of licensed teaching roles. The program is well-suited for paraprofessionals and others seeking flexible pathways to expand their knowledge and career opportunities. Students may also pursue graduate study leading to teacher licensure, including Carson-Newman’s Job-Embedded Practitioner (JEP) programs, while building a strong foundation in teaching, learning, and child development. 

For pathways in liberal studies that lead to teacher licensure, explore the following areas:

    REAL-WORLD EXPERIENCE

    Students in the non-licensure Elementary Education program take many of the same courses as students in the licensure programs and have opportunities to complete practicum experiences virtually or in schools, depending on the student’s location. These flexible practicum experiences allow students to connect coursework with real-world educational practice.
