    Dr. Carolyn Cole Brewer is the Program Director of Graduate Studies in Counseling and Associate Professor of Counseling at Carson-Newman College. Dr. Brewer’s passion is collaborative program development. During her career she has served as a classroom teacher, school counselor, school administrator, school district prevention coordinator, parent and family educator, safe haven and foster care coordinator, consultant, undergraduate and graduate school instructor in education and counseling, and the coordinator for a counseling program for a large oncology center. Her career includes experience with Knox County Schools, TN, Fairfax County Schools, VA, Little Rock School District, AR, Department of Defense Schools, Germany, Army Community Service, Bowman Gray School of Medicine of Wake Forest University, George Mason University, Vincennes University, National-Louis University, University of Maryland Europe, and East Tennessee State University. Her professional career has been devoted to the development of quality educational and counseling programs that unite communities in service for children and families.

    Dr. Brewer received an A.A. Degree in Mathematics and Sociology from Martin College, a B.A. Degree in Mathematics and Sociology from Carson-Newman College, a M.S. Degree in Guidance and Counseling from the University of Tennessee, and an Ed.D. in Counseling from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She is a former President of the European Branch of the American Counseling Association and a former American School Counselor Association Counselor of the Year for Middle Schools. In addition, she was awarded the European Branch of ACA Humanitarian Award and was both the Smoky Mountain Counseling Association and Tennessee School Counselor Association Counselor Educator of the Year for 2009. She is currently serving as the president-elect of the Tennessee Association of Counselor Educators and Supervisors and as the Professional Development Chairperson for the Tennessee Association of School Counselors. Dr. Brewer is married to Retired Colonel Max E. Brewer, also a C-N graduate, who is now a consultant. Together, their favorite activity is visiting their son and his family in Virginia. The role of grandparent is a priority and joy for both of them.
