    Kyle Kaplan is an Assistant Professor of Business Administration, Director of the MBA Program, and Pre-law Advisor at Carson-Newman University.  In addition to teaching at Carson-Newman, Mr. Kaplan is the Founder and CEO of Firefly Recreation, LLC, Tennessee's exclusive provider of Columbia Cascade Company playground equipment, site furnishings, fitness systems, and bicycle security.  Mr. Kaplan is an active member of the Academy of Legal Studies in Business, the Academy of Management, and the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship.

    Previously, Mr. Kaplan served as an Owner and CEO of PLAYRITE, LLC, the premier sports and recreation construction company in Tennessee.  Additionally, Mr. Kaplan worked for a variety of law firms and judges, and he taught eighth-grade math at Ranson Middle School in Charlotte, North Carolina, as a Teach For America corps member, where he was named the Outstanding First-Year Teacher of the Year.

    Mr. Kaplan earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Master of Science in Sport Management at the University of Florida, and he is a proud member of the University of Florida Hall of Fame and Florida Blue Key.  Further, Mr. Kaplan earned a Master of Business Administration and a Juris Doctor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a member of the Frank Porter Graham Honor Society and served as the President of the Broun National Trial Team.

    Dr. Steve Karr has been at Carson-Newman since 1987, having previously received his MS and PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Georgia. Courses he teaches include Microbiology, Immunology, Judo, RAD, and Career Planning in the Health Professions. His office is room 203B in the science building (DSC). Hobbies include martial arts and hiking. Favorite secular book = Lord of the Rings; favorite music = classic rock.

    Susan earned a Bachelor of Science in Animal Behavior and a Master of Science in Forestry from the University of Georgia.  She teaches our Animal Behavior course and coordinates our non-majors courses in Human Biology and Environmental Science.  She has led CN's campus recycling program from its start.  Susan's office is in DSC 214 in the Science Building.

    Elissa Keck Hodge, joined the Carson-Newman Music Department in 2013. Prior to this appointment, she taught at Walters State Community College in Morristown, TN. Originally from the East Tennessee area, she received a Bachelor of Music in Music Theory with an emphasis in voice and extensive study in composition from Carson-Newman. She also holds a Master of Music degree in Musicology from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.  She is currently in pursuit of the Ph.D. in Christian Worship from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky.

    As a composer, Ms. Keck Hodge has written works for student composition competitions at Carson-Newman, one of which led to her selection as first-prize winner, and has also had the privilege of being commissioned by outside sources.  Her two most recent commissions include, a four-part vocal arrangement of “O, The Deep, Deep Love of Jesus” (2013) and an original collaborative work for Easter featuring choir and piano, entitled “The Third Gift” (2012). As an historical musicologist, she has published one book, Orientalism and the Continuation of the English Oratorio: Representation in William Walton’s Belshazzar’s Feast (2011).

    As a member of the department, her teaching responsibilities have included Applied Voice, Class Voice, Music Appreciation, and Women Singers.

    Connie has been involved with higher education administrative software since 1979. As a software specialist in a previous role, she installed, trained, supported and modified proprietary software to meet the needs of the company’s clients.

    Since coming to Carson-Newman College in 1999, she has been a programmer/analyst in the Information Technology Department. Currently working with the Ellucian Colleague Enterprise System software she provides training, testing, troubleshooting, and support for the administrative offices.

    Connie and her husband live in Powell, TN, and have two grown children who both graduated from Carson-Newman. They also have a three year old grandson who keeps them busy during their spare time.

    Dr. Knight received her Bachelor of Business Administration in Economics from the University of Tennessee and her Master’s and Ph.D. in Economics from North Carolina State University. Dr. Knight began her Carson-Newman teaching career in fall 2000.

    Dr. Knight came to Carson-Newman from Triangle Economic Research where she worked as a Senior Economist. She previously taught at North Carolina State University.
