URGENT: Join Louisiana Flood Disaster Relief Effort

(Aug. 17, 2016) – Beginning this weekend, Carson-Newman University will offer a campus-wide effort for Louisiana Disaster Relief. This opportunity to provide crucial support is sponsored by Campus Ministries, supported by the Residence Life Office and the Orientation staff, and is offered in collaboration with the Disaster Relief Team of Nolachucky Baptist Association. (Freshmen move in residence halls Friday, August 19, while returning students move in Sunday and Monday, August 21 and 22.)

Torrential rainfall and flooding in Louisiana over the past few days have led several on-site observers to liken conditions to Hurricane Katrina, and perhaps even worse. And more rain is in the forecast. The complete loss of many American Red Cross warehouses that would normally issue critical supplies is exacerbating the situation.

Carson-Newman efforts will focus on items of “Great Need.” Students and families who make shopping trips and “Walmart runs” as part of moving in are asked to consider picking up an extra item or two for this important effort. Faculty and staff can also bring items to work in the coming days.

Those who prefer to donate money may do so via collection jars at each location or by check (made payable to Carson-Newman Campus Ministries and noted for Louisiana Relief). Campus Ministries will forward all funds to the Nolachucky Association.

Collection boxes and jars are located in each residence hall, along with Fite Administration Building, Maddox Student Activities Center and Campus Ministries.
