(August 11, 2016) – Carson-Newman University’s Dr. Kitty Coffey was recently recognized at the 107th Annual Meeting and Expo of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS) meeting in Bellevue, Washington.

Coffey, who serves as chair of the University’s Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) Department, was among those honored at a gala event by the Coordinating Council of Honor Societies.

As part of her recognition, Coffey is included in a newly released book “Leaders in Family and Consumer Science,” published by Kappa Omicron Nu national honor society. The collection features those impacting the area of Family and Consumer Sciences the last 75 years. Coffey’s autobiography features contributions from departmental colleagues and Carson-Newman alumnae Dr. Diana Carroll and Judy Tarr Gooch, and was edited by professor emerita of English Dr. Ellen Millsaps.

Carson-Newman’s FCS Department was also presented a certificate in recognition of the reaffirmation of accreditation of the department by the Council for Accreditation of the AAFCS. The accreditation runs through the year 2025. Carson-Newman’s Family and Consumer Sciences Department joins Baylor University as the only two private institutions to receive such accreditation.
