Graduate Admission Requirements

Carson-Newman accepts graduate applications year-round, and each program may have unique requirements. In general, applicants should prepare: 

  • Completed Application (online application form)
  • Official transcripts
    • One (1) official transcript from each undergraduate institution attended (unofficial may be submitted for some doctoral programs) 
    • One (1) official transcript from all graduate-level work (if applicable)
  • Minimum GPA (minimum 2.5–3.5 on a 4.0 scale, depending on the program)
  • For International Students:
    • Proof of English proficiency (TOEFL or IELTS)
    • Transcript evaluation by a recognized credentialing agency
    • Financial documentation

Transfer Credit
Subject to approval, Carson-Newman may award transfer credit for previously completed graduate coursework (taken within the past five years): 

  • Up to 6 hours for MA in Applied Theology 
  • Up to 9 hours for MBA, MAT, MEd, MSN and EdS 
  • Up to 12 hours for EdD 
  • Up to 27 hours for MSC (must be from a CACREP accredited program)
