Art Department announces fall exhibits for Omega Gallery

(Aug. 9, 2016) –Carson-Newman University’s Art Department has announced fall exhibits to be featured on campus.

“This fall we have an excellent lineup of three professional art exhibitions in our Omega Gallery,” said David Underwood, professor of Art and director of Art Department Exhibitions. “From watercolor, to letterpress art, to photography we look forward to inviting the community to join us as we showcase these talented artists and diverse mediums.

The season begins with an exhibit by Dr. Earl Cleveland on Monday, August 29. A reception at 3 p.m. will open the watercolor showcase, which will be on display through September 16.

Cleveland, a professor emeritus of art at the University, is credited for building the Department’s program and curriculum in the 1960s and 70s. He constructed the Omega Gallery in 1982 and is responsible for Carson-Newman’s initial accreditation with the National Association of Schools of Art and Design in 1992. He is an active member of the Knoxville Watercolor Society.

Other exhibits to follow include:

– Sept. 27–Oct. 21
“Art, Design, and Creative Uniqueness by Striped Light”
by Bryan Baker, Jason Boardman, and Sarah Shebaro

– Oct. 29–Nov. 30
“Alumni Exhibition: Photographs by Andrew Gresham”

The Omega Gallery is open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is located on the ground floor of the University’s Warren Art Building. Admission is free. Click here for more information on exhibits.
