Dr. Charles A. Fowler, the 23rd president of Carson-Newman University, began his tenure, July 1, 2019. The Corinth, Mississippi native is a graduate of Union University, New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, and Mississippi State University.
Before coming to Carson-Newman, President Fowler served as Senior Pastor of Germantown Baptist Church in Germantown, Tennessee, for nine years. Prior to serving in the pastorate, he was at Union University from 1995 to 2010. During his 15 years at Union, he served as professor of Christian ministries and education, as well as Senior Vice President for University Relations. He also held vice-presidential positions for Development, Student Services, and Enrollment Management. He received Union’s Distinguished Service Award in 2014 and was installed into the university’s R.G. Lee Society of Fellows in 2010.
President Fowler has served on the Board of Trustees for several organizations including Baptist Memorial Healthcare System, Union University, Blue Mountain College, The John Buckman Trust, and the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention.
President Fowler and his wife Sandra have two daughters, Anna and Sarah. Anna is married to Justin who is currently serving in the U.S. Army. They have one son, Charlie. Sarah is married to Bryan.
