category: Academics New credential to help “set C-N graduates apart on job market” category: Academics | October 5, 2023 Blye-Poteat Hall serves as home to C-N's Family and Consumer Sciences Carson-Newman University’s Department of Family and Consumer Sciences received approval to offer child and family studies graduates the eligibility to receive the Certified Family Life Educator (CFLE) credential. The credential is awarded through the National Council on Family Relations (NCFR).The CFLE credential covers 10 different content areas in Family Life Education, signifying the recipient’s expertise across specific areas. According to Dr. Lisa Connor, Carson-Newman associate professor of Family and Consumer Sciences, the announcement benefits C-N graduates. “This credential does a number of things including setting our graduates apart on the job market,” said Connor. “It also has their expertise recognized across the various areas of Family Life Education and provides networking opportunities through the CFLE network,” she said. With the new offering, Carson-Newman’s Child and Family Studies program will be recognized at the NCFR annual conference in Orlando, Florida, in November.
