Eagle Archers make statement in first competition, notch two Top 10 finishes

Carson-Newman’s Eagle Archers came out strong in their inaugural tournament competition on Sept. 21-22. The 2023 USA Archery South-East Collegiate Regional 3D Championships in Whitley County, Kentucky, hosted an Eagles squad that was ready to make a statement, with C-N’sJoseph Hickerson winning the first podium finish for the new program.

“I am so proud of how the archers did this past week,” said C-N’s coach Micah Davis. “They have worked hard and put in the hours.”

Hickerson’s third-place finish in men’s Olympic recurve class was followed by a seventh-place finish by teammate Grace Magnusen in the women’s compound class. Also competing for the Eagle Archers were Gracie Boyd and Carter Burnett. Seeking to build on its initial start, the Eagle Archers prepare for the Collegiate 3D Nationals in Foley, Alabama, Oct. 5-7.
