Crown Office and Artistic Director of the Saint John’s Bible
Calligrapher Donald Jackson talks about the creation of the Saint John’s Bible. A day-long series of experiences including exploration into the art and imagery, the tools and techniques of the 15-year journey to complete a handwritten and illustrated Bible intended to ignite the spiritual imagination in the 21st Century.
This day will include:
- practical experiences
- group interactions
- analyzing an alphabet
- experiencing lettering with a broad-edge marker, quill, and gouache on vellum--a celebration of the art of the Book.
The weekend will begin with a celebratory worship service and opening of The Lynn and Lyndsey Denton Gallery for The Saint John’s Bible (Heritage Edition). Friday will offer opportunities for leisurely viewing of The Saint John’s Bible, shopping at the Pen and Ink Arts shop, and other Saint John’s Bible-related sessions.
Supplies included for this workshop:
Handouts, vellum, quill, gum sandarac, gouache (to be shared between 2 or 3 participants), calligraphy marker. A supplies list for the items you need to bring will be emailed closer to the workshop date.
