Work by C-N art prof to be included in inaugural Knoxville photo exhibit

Art work by Carson-Newman University’s Julie Rabun will be included in the first annual Knoxville Photo 2013, which will open July 5 at Knoxville’s Emporium Center. The announcement was made by The Arts and Culture Alliance, sponsor of the event.

Rabun, an associate professor of art, had her work “More Blue” chosen by R.L. Gibson, who served as juror during the exhibit’s selection process. Gibson, a nationally-shown artist who has work in galleries from New York to Los Angeles, viewed over 470 entries from artists across 12 states before making the final selection.

Rabun’s “More Blue” is composed of four different images taken at four different times and places. She then digitally manipulated and arranged them while being careful to acknowledge specific relationships and compositional elements within each photo, as well as how they relate to one another.

The new exhibit, which will run from July 5 – 26, will feature works from 36 artists throughout the Southeast region. Knoxville Photo was developed to provide a forum for artists to compete on a national scale and display their highest quality work. The exhibition encompasses photographs depicting all subjects and genres, including streetscapes, cityscapes, landscapes, environmental portraiture and abstracts.

A public reception will take place on Friday, July 5, from 5 – 9 p.m. For more information visit: knoxalliance.com
