ORLANDO, Fla. – Carson-Newman University’s play-by-play voice Adam Cavalier (Montgomery, W.Va.) has brought in a national championship by winning Stretch Internet’s Call of the Year contest.

Stretch Internet- the streaming company Carson-Newman and many other entities partner with to webstream live sporting events – announced that Cavalier had won Thursday evening at Stretch Internet’s VIP Reception at the CoSIDA convention.

“We are thrilled that Adam has been recognized for his outstanding work,” Carson-Newman athletic director Allen Morgan said. “He has worked extremely hard at his craft and does an exemplary job as our play-by-play voice for Eagle athletics. No one, in my opinion, is more deserving than Adam and we look forward to working with him for years to come.”

The award featured a multi-stage voting process. First, Carson-Newman fans voted Cavalier into the top ten for the award (he garnered the fourth most votes). Then, Stretch Internet’s staff voted on the remaining entries to choose a winner.

“This award is the best of both worlds,” Cavalier said. “On one hand, it’s picked by a group of your peers, which is incredibly meaningful. And on the other, the fan support to get that call into the conversation was tremendous. I’m humbled on both accounts.”

The winning call featured Ish Sanders’ (Cleveland, Tenn.) game-winning three in a regular season home game against Lenoir-Rhyne. Cavalier intonated Marcellous Perez (Jacksonville, N.C.) walking the ball over the timeline before dishing to Sanders on the left wing. Sanders then proceeded to stick the game winning three over the Bears’ R.J. McLure with 1.6 seconds left.

Cavalier beat out entries from Division I programs Ohio and La Salle. The latter featured the Explorers’ buzzer beater win over Ole Miss to move on to the Sweet 16 in this year’s NCAA tournament.
