University presents “An Evening with Mary Bozeman Hodges”

(Nov. 24, 2014) – To help celebrate the season, Carson-Newman University will present “An Evening with Mary Bozeman Hodges” on Monday, Dec. 1. The 7 p.m. event, which will feature Hodges reading from selected works, will be held at the Appalachian Cultural Center on campus.

Known for her keen humor and witty insights, Hodges is the author of celebrated short story collections “Tough Customers” and “Plastic Santa and Other Stories.” Her writing has been included in journals such as “Appalachian Heritage” and “Journal of Kentucky Studies.”

“A story teller in the best Southern Appalachian tradition,” once remarked celebrated author Wilma Dykeman of Hodges. “She makes us aware of the daily experiences that bond us to ‘neighbors’ everywhere.”

Hodges received the award for fiction from the East Tennessee Writers Hall of Fame in 2005. In 2013, she was a featured presenter on Appalachian humor at the Appalachian Heritage Writers Symposium. The author teaches in Carson-Newman University’s English Department.
