Required Courses (12 credit hours)
HTM 303: Human Resources in Hospitality (3 credit hours) The human resources within a hospitality organization are the most important resources to ensure a guest-centric experience. This course will begin with introducing students to the importance of human resource management (HRM) and then build their understanding of the strategic value of HRM practices and why HRM is a key factor in the success of a hospitality organization.
HTM 305: Total Rewards & Benefits (3 credit hours) This course explores the design, implementation, and administration of comprehensive total rewards strategies tailored specifically for the hospitality industry (hotels, restaurants, resorts, and tourism). Moving beyond salary alone, students will learn how to integrate direct compensation, indirect benefits, performance incentives, and non-monetary recognition to attract, motivate, and retain top talent in a high-turnover sector. The course emphasizes aligning reward systems with business goals, managing labor costs, ensuring pay equity, and creating a culture of engagement that enhances the guest experience.
HTM 403: Hospitality & Employment Law (3 credit hours) This course provides a comprehensive analysis of the legal framework governing the hospitality industry, with a primary focus on employment law and risk management. Students will explore the complex relationship between hospitality operators, employees, and guests through the lens of federal and state regulations.
HTM 405: Talent Acquisition & Development (3 credit hours) This course prepares students to develop and manage the processes and systems of the most important resource in the hospitality industry, the human resource. Students will gain valuable information as to how hospitality organizations develop a competitive advantage when successful processes to attract, select, develop and retain the right people for their organization are implemented.
