The Carson-Newman University Health Pre-Professional program is designed to provide a competitive edge in the very competitive admissions process into health professional schools. We try to emphasize and practice every critical phase of this process.
The Health Pre-Professional program seeks to service all health related professional programs except athletic training, dietetics and nursing (these areas have separate nationally accredited programs existing on our campus). The Pre-Health Professional program here at C-N is designed to provide a competitive edge in a very competitive admissions process into health professional schools. Since 2000, we have had students accepted into the following twelve professional areas:
We offer suggested curriculum maps for our Biology BA health professions majors in the top career areas of Pre-Med, Pre-Dental, Pre-PA, Pre-PT and OT. Our program is organized around the Health Professions Accreditors Collaborative (HPAC), which serves as academic and personal advisors for students pursuing their respective careers.
From 1995-2020, 442 C-N students were accepted into Health Professional schools. In addition, the overall acceptance rate of C-N students for all Health Professional areas is 83%! A large part of this successful rate is because our program is known for the close, personal relationship between students and their professors and advisors.

When I applied for a fellowship program, much to my surprise, I beat out over 100 other applicants for one of six spots.
I loved my time at Carson-Newman! I enjoyed all of the classes that I took. It is evident that the faculty truly cares about their students because they are always willing to work with you on concepts you don’t understand. I would recommend Carson-Newman University to anyone I meet because it is an incredible community to be a part of!
Utilizing our male and female cadavers in the anatomy labs will better prepare our students for the academic rigor of health professions courses! Our students will also be able to take full-length practice MCATs and receive valuable evaluations from the HPAC.
Students receive a one-hour Career Planning course in the first fall semester to outline the components needed to be successful. Students can also participate in mock interviews, job shadows, our annual Health Pre-Professions college fair and have the option to participate in an Hospital Externship course. In addition, our HP-P program is affiliated with numerous professional programs around the country to help enhance the admissions of our students into their school of choice!
