Dr. Philip Martin Young joined the Staff of Carson-Newman University in the Fall of 2023 as Director of Prison Ministry, and as Adjunct Professor in Christian Ministry.

Prior to joining the faculty and staff at Carson-Newman, Phil served as Director of Missions for Knox County Association of Baptists, Missions and Ministry Specialist for the Tennessee Baptist Mission Board, and currently has an ongoing role at the TBMB as Church Revitalization Specialist provides consulting opportunities to assist churches in developing strategic initiatives toward sustainable church health. Phil served as Senior Pastor of churches in Texas, North Carolina, and Knoxville, Tennessee for twenty years prior to his roles in denominational leadership

Phil has served as Guest Professor, Saint Petersburg Evangelical Theological Seminary, Saint Petersburg, Russia; and Guest Lecturer, Canadian Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Cochrane, Alberta.

Phil is married to Kim Young, a Tax Partner with Pugh & Company CPA. Phil and Kim have three children, four grandchildren and a Goldendoodle named Millie! He loves sports of all kinds, experimenting with various coffee brewing methods, and most of all spending time with his family.
