Joseph North

Staff Accompanist

Joseph North began his position as staff accompanist at Carson-Newman University in the fall of 2005. He attended the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where he received his Bachelors in Piano Performance and his Masters in Studio Jazz.  In 2021, Mr. North added the title of adjunct instructor of music at Carson-Newman, teaching keyboard improvisation.  He also is a private piano instructor.

Previously, he has served as principal pianists for Emmanuel Baptist Church (Jefferson City, TN) and First Baptist Church Concord (Farragut, TN).  Mr. North also went on tour with Concord Worship in Northern Ireland and participated on multiple recording projects.  He has served as an accompanist for the Knoxville Choral Society, and also assisted as a guest accompanist for several other local choirs.  Mr. North periodically teaches music appreciation classes and class piano at Walters State Community College.  Throughout the years, he has played with various ensembles, accompanied vocalists and instrumentalists, and been a guest pianist at multiple venues. He has also assisted with scholarship auditions at Carson-Newman and performer auditions for Dollywood Theme Park. 

Mr. North is the recipient of several music awards including 1st place winner of the 2000 High School Senior division in the Tennessee Music Teachers Association Piano Competition, winner of the MACCO Concerto Competition, and 2nd place winner in the University of Tennessee full tuition scholarship competition. In 1999, he was selected to attend the Governor’s School for the Arts as a high school junior.  In 2011, he released a solo album entitled “Joseph North: Hymns”.  

He is a member of Mill Springs Baptist Church, where he serves as worship leader and primary pianist.  Joseph resides in Morristown, TN with his wife and daughter.
