Cody Boling

Adjunct Music Director of Lyric Theatre & Opera

Cody Boling, a native of Seymour, TN, is excited and blessed to join the Carson-Newman University Department of Music as an adjunct professor. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Vocal Performance and Music Education from the University of Tennessee Knoxville, and a Master’s Degree and Performer’s Certificate in Vocal Performance from Indiana University. 

In addition to his formal education, Mr. Boling has taught middle school and high school choir in Knox County for nine years. As a performer, he has had the privilege of performing in numerous venues, from churches to Ireland to the Tennessee Theatre. As a Christian, church music holds special meaning for him, and he loves to worship and sing praises to God. 

Since 2016, Mr. Boling has served as the Associate Minister of Worship at First Baptist Church in Lenoir City. Before this role, he also served as interim music minister in two other Baptist churches in the Knoxville area. When he is not working in the church, you can find him singing on local and national stages in musicals, operas, and symphony performances. 

His memorable performances include Peter Quint from “The Turn of the Screw,” Prunier from “La Rondine,” Tamino from “Die Zauberflöte,” Franklin Hart in “9 to 5,” Feldzeig in “The Drowsy Chaperone,” Herr Vanderdendur in “Candide,” Mr. Thenardier in “Les Misérables,” and the Major General in “The Pirates of Penzance.” Additionally, Mr. Boling has enjoyed professional solo opportunities in oratorios such as Bach’s “Magnificat” and Handel’s “Messiah” with the Knoxville Handel Society and the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra. 

Cody has been married to his wife, Merritt, for five years, and they have two children: Billy (2 years) and Ruby (9 months).
