Dr. Tony Campolo, internationally known educator, minister and founder of Evangelical Association for the Promotion of Education, will speak as part of Carson-Newman’s Community, Life and Worship Program on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 9:30 a.m. at Jefferson City’s First Baptist Church. “Tony Camoplo absolutely challenges all believers to be more like Christ,” says C-N Campus Minister Nenette Measels. “He will reach in past the everyday, normal, be polite Christianity and rattle you; it takes loving action to make life better for those who Christ called ‘the least of these.’” Professor emeritus of sociology at Eastern University and one-time presidential advisor, Campolo is long considered among America’s most celebrated and sought-after speakers. Campolo is the author of three dozen books, including Red Letter Christians and Stories that Feed your Soul. His media work includes commentary on religious, social and political matters. His appearances over the years have included The Colbert Report, Nightline, Crossfire, Politically Incorrect, The Charlie Rose Show and Larry King Live. He has hosted television programs and has been heard via radio across the United States as well as from the UK to New Zealand. Through EAPE, Campolo developed and implemented short and long-term Christian service programs in Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Africa, Canada and throughout the United States. The efforts have generated and nurtured elementary and secondary schools, universities, adult and child literacy centers, tutoring programs, orphanages, AIDS hospices, urban youth ministries and summer camps. The special event is open to the public.
