Class of ’72 turns 50!

It was when Marlon Brando made an offer that couldn’t be refused, Don McLean drove his Chevy to the levee, Watergate made headlines, and everyone learned that Mikey would eat anything – including Life cereal.

It was 1972.

Homecoming 2022 marks the 50th reunion for members of the Class of ’72. Along with the many homecoming activities planned, a Friday, Nov. 4 Class of ’72 reunion photo is scheduled for 6:15 p.m., followed by a Reunion Dinner in the small cafeteria of Stokely Memorial Cafeteria.

On Saturday, Nov. 5, the class will be inducted into the Founders Society at 12:30 p.m.

Bob Gay, who is serving as co-reunion chair with classmate Linda Friedland, says he is looking forward to catching up with others from the ’72 group. “…Homecoming is a time of celebration of the C-N mission and vision,” Gay said. “It reaffirms and confirms the relevance and divine purpose of (the University). I grew up at Carson-Newman and found my life’s partner and path.”

Gay says as a member of C-N’s Board of Trustees, he wants to see how his fellow alumni are supporting and promoting the University. “This is important to me as a trustee,” he said. “Also, to find out how many children or grandchildren followed in their footsteps and came to C-N…”
