During its annual Founders’ Day service, Carson-Newman College awarded the institution’s Founders’ Day Medallion to Chattanooga’s C.T. Cozart, Jr. The award is one of the most prestigious honors given by the University. “Over my three-plus decades in higher education, I have encountered many people willing to be ON a trustee board, but a fewer number willing to SERVE,” said C-N President Randall O’Brien, addressing those gathered at the event. “C.T. Cozart is one who has been willing to serve indeed. He has invested his time, made meaningful financial contributions, and graced Carson-Newman with his energy.” Cozart graduated with a business degree from the University of Tennessee in 1962 and earned a graduate degree there in 1992. He served Chevron in numerous capacities for 30 years, managing the corporation’s retail operations in four states and running the marketing and property acquisition operation in Florida. For the better part of his last decade with Chevron, he was the global marketing manager; he led hundreds of employees, was responsible for the sale of lubricants across the globe, which generated more than one billion dollars in sales each year. He leads a consultancy business, has served as a director for several petroleum related corporations and is a charter member of the advisory board at the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga’s Center of Excellence in Applied Computational Science. Cozart joined C-N’s board in 2000 and has served twice as its chair. He is married to Molly and they have two adult children and two grandchildren. Past recipients of the Founders’ Day honor have included 1949 alumna Betty Gay Blanc of Jefferson City, and 1960 alumnus Dr. Jack Owenby of Mt. Juliet.
