Some 500 people gathered in Jefferson City’s First Baptist Church Thursday, Sept. 26, as Carson-Newman University marked the start of The Saint John’s Bible Exhibit with an opening celebration.

The event featured Tim Ternes, director of The Saint John’s Bible at the Hill Museum and Manuscript Library in Collegeville, Minn., as he presented an in-depth look into the 15-year historic project and its results.

Carson-Newman joins a limited number of institutions world-wide to house a rare, full-size artistic reproduction of The Saint John’s Bible, the first handwritten and illuminated Bible in 500 years. Other locations include Yale University, Florida’s Naples Museum of Art, and the Vatican Museum of Art in Rome.

The University will have all seven volumes on exhibit for the public through Oct. 23 in Ted Russell Hall. Carson-Newman will continue to house two volumes, the Pentateuch along with Gospels & Acts through August 2014.
