Bonner Center hosts Twin Pillars Banquet, honors service and engagement

(April 13, 2015) – Carson-Newman University’s Bonner Center for Service Learning and Civic Engagement recently hosted an April 9 Twin Pillars Banquet.

The event recognizes members of both the campus and greater communities who make significant contributions towards Carson-Newman’s ‘twin pillars’ of academic excellence and Christian service.

“The third annual Twin Pillars Banquet was a resounding success,” said Chad Williams, director of the Bonner Center. “Through the banquet tonight, we were able to honor those faculty, students, and community members whose excellence epitomizes Carson-Newman’s pillars of service and academics. More importantly, their efforts lay the groundwork for future generations to come.”

Those who received awards during the evening include:

Twin Pillars Award of Excellence in Scholarship and Service

–       Julie Davis, Oak Ridge, double major in religion and social entrepreneurship

–       Tim Boone, Mount Hope, Alabama, double major in psychology and cross-cultural sociology

–       Tyler Brewer, Chattanooga, double major in social entrepreneurship and applied psychology

–       Niki Green, Johnson City, double major in psychology and religion

–       Kristyn Roden, Tucker, Georgia, education major

 

Twin Pillars Award of Excellence in Service-Learning Instruction

–       Dr. Cindy Lang, assistant professor of education

 

Twin Pillars Award of Excellence in Civic Engagement

–       Dr. Ray Dalton, associate professor of sociology

–       Barbara Garrow, director of the Crossroads Downtown Partnership 

–       Sami Barile, former mayor of Morristown
