Carson-Newman invites community to celebrate Christmas season during free events

(Nov. 22, 2019) JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — Carson-Newman University invites the community to join the sights, sounds and spirit of Christmas giving during upcoming campus events to celebrate the holiday season.

The 39th annual Christmas Tree Lighting will take place at 6 and 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, in the Tarr Music Center. Choral groups and instrumental ensembles will usher in the Christmas season during this traditional event. For complimentary tickets, call 865-471-3328.

Earlier that same day, families can come to the Maddox Student Activities Center grand hall from 4-6 p.m. to take pictures with Santa, decorate cookies and enjoy a hot chocolate bar. Tupperware and laundry detergent donations will be accepted for the Samaritan House.

Santa will make another appearance that weekend, bringing treats for shoppers as the MSAC grand hall transforms into a Missions Merry Market.

The market will be open Friday, Dec. 6, from 5-9 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 7, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Crafters and artisans will set up booths for the community to enjoy Christmas shopping, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting students’ mission trips.
