Stokely Memorial Cafeteria gets modern reno

(August 23, 2019) JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — Aramark Higher Education unveiled a major renovation to Carson-Newman University’s Stokely Memorial Cafeteria on Wednesday. The renovation was a gift from Aramark to the University.

Joining University and Aramark representatives for the noon ribbon cutting were Jefferson County Mayor Mark Potts, city officials and members of the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce, many of whom are Carson-Newman alumni.

“I have, in previous institutions, worked with Aramark during 20 years of higher education experience. Aramark have been incredible partners, and it thrilled me when I learned that they were a partner with Carson-Newman,” said University President Charles A. Fowler. “You’re going to see what $1 million of investment looks like in this cafeteria. I think you’re going to be blown away. I certainly have been.”

The project, completed by Maryville-based Leon Williams Contractors, included extensive upgrades to the dining experience with improved flow, updated contemporary finishes and expanded food options and convenience.

“This has been a long time coming. I want to welcome you to a new era, a new way of eating,” said Rebecca Greenep, dining director, Aramark/Carson-Newman University. “I’m very, very proud of this. And I’m glad to share it with all of you.”

Students, faculty and staff enjoyed a complimentary lunch following the ribbon cutting. Sliding barn doors unveiled options such as international faire, vegan and vegetarian foods, a salad bar, pizzas and pasta, an allergen-free station, and American classics.

Aramark truly values and appreciates the over 40-year partnership we have with Carson-Newman University,” said Kathryn Crockett, Aramark district manager. “We couldn’t be happier to contribute to the living environment on this campus, where you dine, where you gather, where you fellowship. We’re so pleased to be a part of this campus community.
