Seale tapped to serve as president of state financial aid body

Danette Seale

(April 24, 2019) JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman University’s Danette Seale knows college financial aid. When it comes to talking about the ins and outs of FASFA, the availability of student loans, or spreading the word about C-N’s affordability, Seale is the go-to person on campus for families navigating college and cost.

However her reputation for being good at what she does has spread beyond the banks of Mossy Creek. That’s why it was no surprise to Assistant Vice President for Enrollment Management Aaron Porter when Tennessee’s professional body on financial aid came calling for its future state president.

“In her 26 years serving Carson-Newman, Danette has consistently promoted what is best for the institution with regards to financial aid procedures and decisions,” said Porter. “Her compassionate approach to assisting students and families in gaining access to Carson-Newman comes from her own C-N story. I am confident she will represent Carson-Newman well.”

Seale, a Jefferson City resident and ’93 alumna, was elected to serve as president-elect for the Tennessee Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators in 2019-2020, a role she will transition into this fall. She will then serve as TASFAA’s president for 2020-2021. The three-year commitment will conclude with her as past president from 2021-2022.

Her time as a TASFAA member spans as long as her years at C-N. Not content in simply being a member, Seal has taken a very active approach, serving in a variety of TASFAA roles. However, Seal says she looks forward to this particular role in a field she enjoys. “I like helping students realize their goal of attending college. I enjoy getting to help families even if they don’t happen to choose Carson-Newman.”

Founded in 1851, Carson-Newman is a Christian liberal arts university located in Jefferson City, Tennessee, among the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains. The University has over 2,500 students and offers 50 undergraduate majors, as well as associate, bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees.
