Ball named assistant VP for Student Affairs

(September 5, 2018) JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — Carson-Newman University Senior Vice President for Student Affairs Ross Brummett has appointed Shelley Ball to assistant vice president for Student Affairs.

“Shelley’s promotion to assistant vice president and dean of students is well-deserved and long overdue,” Brummett said. “Shelley has invested herself in this University and in our unit for 15 years in a variety of ways, including Campus Ministries, Student Activities and as dean of students, always demonstrating a level of professional excellence that indicts and inspires most of us.

In her new role, Ball will convene the University’s CARE team and assist the department in enhancing programming efforts.

Ball, a 2000 alumna, advanced from serving as the Campus Ministries intern in 2003 to serving from 2004-2008 as director of student activities. She also served as interim assistant dean of students for a year before being named dean of students in 2008. She will continue in that role, serving as the chief judicial officer managing the University student conduct system.

After earning her undergraduate degree in religion from C-N, Ball received a Master of Divinity degree in theology from Baylor University and a Master of Science degree in college student personnel from the University of Tennessee.

She and her husband, Jeremy, a 2000 alumnus, reside in Dandridge with their daughter, Dana Claire.

Founded in 1851, Carson-Newman is a Christian liberal arts university located in Jefferson City, Tennessee, among the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains. The University has over 2,500 students and offers 50 undergraduate majors, as well as associate, bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees.
