Students team with Food on Foot this Easter to benefit children in need

Carolyn and Bob Jarnagin, pictured center, of Morristown’s Food on Foot ministry, are joined by Carson-Newman students at a campus event to prepare Easter baskets for children in need.

(April 10, 2017) – Carson-Newman University student-volunteers recently gathered on the newly landscaped banks of Mossy Creek to prepare Easter baskets for Food on Foot, a Christian-based nonprofit ministry in Morristown.

The ministry provides nutritious food bags to Morristown families in need to help underprivileged children. The baskets will be distributed to area children in time for Easter.

For Food on Foot founder Carolyn Jarnagin, the sight of students spending a Friday afternoon helping others turned emotional.

When we drove down the hill and I saw all these young students helping those in need, my heart just leaped. It really touched me and brought tears to my eyes,” said Jarnagin. “They don’t even know the children who are going to receive these baskets, yet they’re out here in the cold making them for them.”

Over 70 students took part in preparing 290 baskets with candy, food and cards. The event was sponsored by the University’s offices of Student Activities, Residence Life, as well as C-N’s Community Connections.

“This is not a necessity for the children,” said Jarnagin, “but it means the world to them.”
