category: Campus News International students to offer a “glimpse of home” at Nov. 16 event category: Campus News | November 10, 2016 (Nov. 10, 2016) – Carson-Newman University will present “A Sense of Place in Appalachia” on Wednesday, Nov. 16. The event is sponsored by the University’s Appalachian Cultural Center. Free and open to the public, “A Sense of Place” will feature members of Carson-Newman’s international student community. Students will share poetry and readings in their native languages and discuss the time as current residents in Appalachia. The event offers a unique blend of cultures of Appalachia, Portugal, Korea, Saudi Arabia, China, Germany, Japan and others. The University is currently hosting a record number of 143 international students on campus this semester from 34 countries. The 4 p.m. event will be held at the Appalachian Cultural Center located on Russell Avenue on Carson-Newman’s campus.
