Annual poetry reading is a “Homecoming 2016” highlight

Linda Parsons

(Oct. 25, 2016) – As part of its homecoming week, Carson-Newman University will host a poetry reading by celebrated poet and playwright Linda Parsons, Friday, Oct. 28. The reading will be held at 4 p.m. at the University’s Appalachian Cultural Center.

Parsons served as poetry editor for Now & Then magazine and is the recipient of literary fellowships from the Tennessee Arts Commission. Her work has earned her such honors as the Associated Writing Programs’ Intro Award and the 2012 George Scarbrough Award in Poetry. She has appeared in such publications as The Georgia Review, Iowa Review, Prairie Schooner, Southern Poetry Review and Asheville Poetry Review. Her most recent work, “This Shaky Earth,” is her fourth collection of poetry.

Parson’s visit is part of the Henrietta Jenkins Memorial Poetry Reading. Mary Patton Sarros, a 1963 alumna, established the annual event in 2009 in honor of her former professor.

The reading is free and open to the public. Seating is limited.
