category: Campus News University’s music fraternity to host benefit concert, Feb. 16 category: Campus News | February 10, 2016 (Feb. 9, 2016)—Carson-Newman University’s Alpha Gamma Chapter of Delta Omicron music fraternity will host a benefit concert Tuesday, Feb 16. The event will be held at 7:30 p.m. in Thomas Recital Hall. Pianists Uwe Romeike and Brandon Coffer will perform pieces by Brahms and Chopin. Funds raised at the concert will go toward awards that Delta Omicron presents to students on Music Honors Night. Awards given at the April 25 event will include scholarships, book awards and monetary prizes to offset applied music fees. Professor of Music and Chair of Carson-Newman’s Vocal Division, Ann Jones says attending the concert is a way for music enthusiasts to support music education at Carson-Newman. “It’s excellent recognition for our students to receive awards, and monetary prizes help further their education,” Jones says. “Books, for example, can be very expensive and this will help facilitate funds they may not get otherwise.” Romeike is a staff accompanist in the University’s Music Department, pianist at Morristown’s First Baptist Church, and teaches piano at his Morristown studio. He studied piano with Professor W. Wagenhauser at Trossingen University in Germany, his native country. He has given performances in various churches and theatre productions throughout East Tennessee at numerous venues including the Tennessee Theatre. A Knoxville native, Coffer is also a staff accompanist at the University and a resident pianist for Marble City Opera. He also serves as accompanist at Greeneville’s Trinity United Methodist Church. Carson-Newman’s Alpha Gamma Chapter is recognized as the most successful chapter of Delta Omicron, having won the fraternity’s prestigious Chapter Achievement Award for 48 consecutive years. Tickets are $5 for the general public, $2 for students, and may be purchased at the door. Thomas Recital Hall is in the Tarr Music Center, located along Russell Avenue on Carson-Newman’s campus.
