University recital to feature guest pianist Martin Söderberg, Sept. 24

(Sept. 18, 2015) –Carson-Newman University will host a music recital by guest pianist Martin Söderberg, Thursday, Sept. 24. The 7:30 p.m. event will be held in Thomas Recital Hall located in Tarr Music Center. The recital is free and open to the public.

Söderberg, who has been performing since age 12, made his recital debut in Las Palmas, Spain. After being awarded the First Prize in the 1985 “Pilar Bayona” International Piano Competition in Zaragoza, Spain, he has concertized extensively in Spain, Sweden, Slovakia, Germany, England, Central America, The Caribbean, South America, China and the U.S.

In addition to being a distinguished performer of the classical works of all the major composers representing all musical periods, Söderberg has championed the celebrated music of Spain.

As a child growing up in the Canary Islands and Madrid, Söderberg was introduced to the sounds of the Spanish Masters, music which has made up much of his repertoire ever since. Hailed by the New York Times for his stylistic interpretations of Spanish music, Söderberg’s expertise has established him as a renowned resource for information on the works of composers such as Albeniz, Granados, de Falla, Turina, Mompou, Halffter, Rodrigo, Soler, and others.

Tarr Music Center is located on Russell Avenue in Jefferson City.
