category: Campus News University names Percy as new MBA director category: Campus News | July 16, 2013 Dr. Paul Percy Dr. Paul Matthew Percy joins Carson-Newman University as the new Ted Russell distinguished professor of business and director of the MBA and organizational leadership programs. Percy served as provost and vice president for Academic Affairs at King University in Bristol prior to joining Carson-Newman. He began his career at King as an assistant professor of business and department chair. Percy, with 25 years of experience as a college professor of business, is an exciting addition to the University team, according to Carson-Newman administration. “Dr. Paul Percy brings years of experience in program development and will be a key driver in growing our online Organizational Leadership degree — which we launched this summer — and our strong MBA degree, which is offered both online and on-ground,” said Dr. Kina Mallard, C-N’s executive vice president and provost. Percy also has 18 years of experience in various roles of academic administration, eight years of experience in banking, and 27 years as an Air Force and Air National Guard officer. Dr. Tori Knight, chair of the Business Department, is excited to have Percy’s talent on the Carson-Newman team. “I am excited he is with us,” she said. “He has a lot of experience in the adult education population, which is an area where we are growing and one where we can foster as a strong part of the mission of Carson-Newman University.” While at King University, Percy served in a variety of roles. He spearheaded the university’s initiative to offer its first graduate program in business and helped develop professional programs in nursing and business. He also established King’s second largest campus on Hardin Valley Road in Knoxville. However, it is Percy’s desire to teach that has led him to return to the classroom. “I love teaching, and Carson-Newman’s business program is superior because of its great academic faculty and design,” Percy said. He said he wants to direct his energy to growing Carson-Newman’s already prestigious business department. Percy is already brainstorming ways to propel Carson-Newman even higher. He said he dreams of adding an international component to prepare students for the emerging global marketplace, as well as grow professional and nontraditional programs to reach the needs of nontraditional students. Percy received his Bachelor of Science degree in communication and business administration from Houghton College before earning his MBA from the University at Buffalo. He continued his education at the University of Kentucky where he received his Ph.D. in business.
