Accounting

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Accounting is the language of business. This degree program prepares you for the workplace with a multifaceted understanding of financial information and use of resources in reaching an organization’s goals. Coupled with the requisite business-related courses, an accounting major opens avenues to established businesses, entrepreneurial possibilities and nonprofit pathways. With a wide array of both business and liberal arts courses, C-N graduates are prepared to be critical thinkers and problem solvers.

While the accounting major may be completed in 120 credit hours, students have the option to extend coursework through May term and summer classes. By accumulating 150 credit hours, graduates are eligible to sit for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam. In addition, if certain academic achievements are met, a senior undergraduate student may take a master’s level course in C-N’s Master of Business Administration (MBA) program.

DID YOU KNOW?

Students in the Business Department can join the student group Student Business Leaders to gain valuable organizational and leadership skills. This group’s purpose is to support the students majoring in Business by providing opportunities to meet with area business leaders, including Department alumni. They do so by inviting area business leaders, including C-N Business Department alumni, to come to campus to discuss with students how to plan for the job search, including how to prepare for an interview and how to improve resumes, and what working in a business is really like. This group also coordinates two career fairs each academic year where up to twenty area business recruit graduating seniors and students interested in internships.
