People Lisa Matthews Lisa Matthews Assistant Professor of Counseling Dr. Matthews is a counselor educator and licensed professional counselor with nearly two decades of experience in the mental health field. Her professional background includes work in community mental health, college counseling, and private practice. Her research and clinical interests focus on pre-licensed counselor development, the use of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) for a range of clinical issues, and the integration of faith and counseling practice. Lisa and her husband are raising two young daughters and a college-aged foster son. As a family, they enjoy spending time outdoors, traveling, and participating in the life of their downtown Knoxville community. They are also actively involved in their church, which serves the urban and university population in the heart of the city.
