People Karla Bowers Karla Bowers Assistant Professor of Chemistry & EPA Coordinator BS, Chemistry, Appalachian State University, 1990 MS, Organic Chemistry, University of Tennessee, Knoxville, 1993 Other experience: Research Assistant, Quillen College of Medicine, Johnson City, TN Joined Carson-Newman in 1994 I teach Introductory Chemistry for nursing and dietetics, General Chemistry labs, and Senior Seminar in Chemistry. Also, I administer the chemical safety and waste programs for the College. I have been at Carson-Newman for 17 years and consider the College community an extension of my home and family. I like to enjoy some of the natural surroundings of the region through geocaching and I attend a local church in Sevierville. I appreciated the privilege of having my son enrolled in the preschool (Child Development Lab) here at Carson-Newman in the 2001-2002 school year.
