People Alden Starnes Alden Starnes Professor of Mathematics Alden Starnes joined the C-N Mathematics Faculty in August 2001. His areas of interest are Statistics, and Linear Algebra. He also enjoys enhancing student learning through ESAA simulated Baseball and Football. Additionally, Starnes has served C-N in the past as football PA announcer (22 years), faculty dual enrollment facilitator, campus statistician, faculty chairman (2 years) and as a faculty representative/sponsor for various student organizations (Math, Mossy Creek Fellowship, Student Veterans, etc). His favorite verses are Philippians 2:10-11. Outside of C-N he serves as Adult Bible teacher and worship pianist for a bilingual church at Buffalo Grove Baptist Church. Starnes is a past president of the Starnes Triennial Association, and a member of the Jefferson County Genealogical Society, to which he has given several presentations, including 3 on the geohistory of C-N. He enjoys golfing with friends and family. Alden, and his wife Mary, have two grown children, Elizabeth and Enoch (Reanon) Starnes, and one granddaughter, Julia Pires. Starnes was baptized as a Christian on February 2, 1969, at Union Baptist Church of Achilles, VA. By God’s grace, he has a BA from C-N, and a PhD from Virginia Tech.
