Mallard promoted to executive vice president

On January 28, Carson-Newman President Randall O’Brien announced the promotion of Dr. Kina Mallard to the position of executive vice president. Mallard, who is also provost of the institution, served in the role of vice president of academic affairs since joining Carson-Newman in 2009.

Provost Kina Mallard“This promotion is the next logical step in a long, distinguished administrative career for Dr. Mallard,” said O’Brien. “She has served four universities in South Carolina, Massachusetts, and Tennessee as a department chair, an associate provost, a dean of the College, and now as provost of Carson-Newman for the past four years. As executive vice president and provost, she will be well-positioned to move to a college presidency, if she so desires,” he championed. “We are certainly fortunate to have her at Carson-Newman.”

A resident of Jefferson City, Mallard is a Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce Board member. She is also a CAO Commission member with the Council for Christian College and Universities, and is a CCCU senior fellow for Faculty Development. Mallard serves on the advisory board for the academic newsletter, The Department Chair. She is also the author of several academic publications as well as book chapters.

Prior to joining C-N’s executive ranks, Mallard served as academic dean at Gordon College in Wenham, Massachusetts. She also served at Union University in Jackson, Tennessee as associate provost for faculty and academic development, as well as chair of the communication arts department.

Mallard received her undergraduate degree from Middle Tennessee State University. She continued her education at the University of Tennessee earning both the Master of Arts degree in organizational communications, and her doctorate in communication.
