Graduate program surge brings record spring enrollment

Carson-Newman University President Charles A. Fowler and senior chemistry major Ben Blakley, of Huntsville, share a laugh during a Conversations with the President event hosted by the Student Government Association. The University is celebrating a record spring enrollment.

(March 5, 2021) JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — This semester is cause for celebration at Carson-Newman University, where a record spring enrollment brought 2,729 students to Mossy Creek.

Spring 2020’s enrollment was the University’s prior record for the second semester of the school year, with 2,578 students.

“God has truly blessed Carson-Newman with a growing enrollment,” said University President Charles A. Fowler. “Each year, it’s such an encouragement to see more and more students turn to Carson-Newman for their higher education and allow our faculty and staff to engage them with our distinctively Christ-centered approach. Here, students can know that we’ll walk alongside them, equipping them to pursue God’s best for their lives.

A robust response to the University’s graduate programs helped to achieve this notable milestone. There are 1,204 graduate students enrolled this semester. The previous highest graduate enrollment was 948 students in spring 2020.

Carson-Newman’s graduate programs include several options in education, nursing, business administration, counseling and applied theology. The University offers online and in-person graduate study options that are flexible for those working full-time and looking to advance their careers.

Founded in 1851, Carson-Newman is a Christian liberal arts-based university affiliated with the Tennessee Baptist Convention. The University is located in Jefferson City, Tennessee, among the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains and celebrated a fall record of over 2,900 students. Carson-Newman offers 50 undergraduate majors, as well as associate, bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees.
