Carson-Newman University will hold a special Constitution Day event on Thursday Sept. 17. With the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence providing a backdrop, Dr. Kara E. Stooksbury, James F. Ellis Chair in History and Political Science, will present a talk at 6:30 p.m. in Thomas Recital Hall in Tarr Music Center.
Stooksbury, who is the co-editor of “The Encyclopedia of American Civil Rights and Civil Liberties”and the forthcoming book “Gerrymandering and American Politics,” will delve into the relationship between the Constitution and the Declaration. She will discuss the significance of the Declaration and its impact throughout American history on our ideas about equality.
The event is free and open to the public.
