(May 6, 2016) –Carson-Newman University graduated some 400 students during both undergraduate and graduate Spring Commencement ceremonies, a record for the University.

Congressman John Duncan, Jr. spoke to undergraduates. The congressman took a few minutes to advise the class that life lived with a forgiving heart is easier on both parties, citing the writing and influence of Carson-Newman President Randall O’Brien as helping others learn that important lesson.

Citing the lyrics of The Rose, including “It’s the one who won’t be taken who cannot seem to give/And the soul, afraid of dying that never learns to live,” he then encouraged Carson-Newman’s newest alumni to live boldly and “play it grand.”
