Carson-Newman University honors faculty members

(April 27, 2015) – Carson-Newman University recently recognized several members of its faculty with awards, recognitions and promotions during its final faculty meeting for the academic year.

Recipients of awards included Pat Bivens, Creativity Award; Dr. Kim Hawkins, Excellence in Academic Advising Award; Dr. Karenna Malavanti, Research Award; and Dr. Paul Martino, Mentoring Award. Kyle Biery, earned this year’s Mossy Creek Teacher-Scholar Endowment Grant Award.

Those earning promotions and tenure include: Patricia Bivens, associate professor of music and tenure; Dr. Mike Bundy, associate professor of school counseling and tenure; Dr. Carolyn Brewer, associate professor of counseling with tenure; Dr. Kim Hawkins, associate professor of education and tenure; Dr. Tori Knight, professor of economics; Sharon McAnear, associate professor of nursing; Dr. Henry Suters, professor of mathematics; Dr. Beth Vanlandingham, professor of history. Dr. Angela Wood, professor of nursing.

Faculty members granted sabbaticals include: Dr. Brian Austin, professor of philosophy, fall 2015; Dr. Kara Stooksbury, associate professor of political science, fall 2015; Dr. Maria Clark, associate professor of foreign language, spring 2016; Dr. James Collins, professor of psychology, spring 2016; Lisa Flanary, associate professor of art, spring 2016; and Dr. Shawn O’Hare, professor of English, spring 2016.

Those named to professor emeritus status include: Dr. Diana Carroll, William Houston, Dr. Alice McCurry, Dr. Ken Morton, and Dr. Larry Osborne.
