(April 4, 2014)– Carson-Newman University will hold its fourth annual Research, Creativity and Performance Day, Wednesday, April 9. The University will suspend all regular classes to focus on the student presentations. The event showcases one of the distinctives of Carson-Newman, a passion for intellectual inquiry through collaborative scholarship and creative endeavors between students and faculty,” said Dr. Kina Mallard, executive vice president and provost. “From freshman students learning basic research tools, to seniors and graduate students designing research projects to present at national conferences, Research, Creativity and Performance Day helps students engage the life of the mind and be better prepared for graduate schools or challenging careers.” Free and open to the public, the day features the work of Carson-Newman students, and the effectiveness of a liberal arts education. The public is invited to view oral presentations, poster sessions, art displays, panel discussions and music and literary performances. The day begins at 9 a.m. with the opening of a Student Art and Photography Exhibition as well as undergraduate oral presentations of scholarship. Other presentations include: graduate students’ work, music performances, and forensics showcase. The day will also feature faculty presentations, a new addition this year. Carson-Newman’s Research, Creativity and Performance Day grew out of a conversation in 2011 between Mallard and Professor of Psychology Dr. Laura Wadlington. Having had 10 years of experience conducting a similar event sponsored by the Psychology Department, Wadlington spearheaded the inaugural campus-wide event.
