category: Campus News Carson-Newman launches Organizational Leadership Program category: Campus News | July 22, 2013 Dr. Paul Percy, director of the organizational leadership and MBA programs at Carson-Newman University, talks with Business Department Chair Dr. Tori Knight about the upcoming fall semester. Carson-Newman University recently announced a new Bachelor of Science degree in organizational leadership for working adults. Launched this summer, the Organizational Leadership Program is accepting students for the fall semester. Designed to be completed in as little as 18 months, the program is offered entirely online. “Our emphasis on leadership is unique,” said Dr. Paul Percy, the new director of the organizational leadership and MBA programs at Carson-Newman. He said the degree is multidisciplinary with an emphasis on business. It fills a growing hole in adult education to propel professionals to leadership positions and fulfilling careers. Percy says the program increases earning potential and career opportunities. “It builds a set of skills that employers are looking for,” said Percy. Designed to help bridge the gap between “some college” and a bachelor’s degree, the organizational program is flexible to meet students where they are. The ideal candidate is a working adult, who has some college credit and work experience and who is beyond the age to complete a traditional program. Percy said he would love to grow the program and possibly include a variety of emphases in the future. Dr. Tori Knight, chair of the Business Department, is excited about the chance to reach a new demographic through the new program. “We are paying attention to the needs of our students regarding curriculum and professional development —both for adult and traditional students,” said Knight. She said they have spent time looking at university leaders in business to make sure Carson-Newman remains on the competitive edge. “I’m excited about the future and the ability to grow our department,” Knight said.
