Carson-Newman honors those announcing retirements

Carson-Newman University President Charles A. Fowler, pictured right, recognized those announcing retirement this year at a special reception. Carson-Newman University held a special April 24 reception on campus for those announcing retirements this year. The group of six represents a staggering 186 years of total service to the University.

“We owe much to our faculty and staff – their dedication and love for our students is selfless and distinctive,” said University President Charles A. Fowler. “These individuals that we honor this year have careers that reflect the very best of Carson-Newman. They have touched lives, helped young minds to grow, and have demonstrated what a Christ-centered education looks like. For that, our university community is forever grateful.”

Retiring this year are:

  • Dr. Brian Austin
    Professor and Program Director of Philosophy – 30 years
  • Diana Musall Cameron
    Accounts Receivable Manager – 30 years
  • Dr. Mark Hussung
    Professor of Music – 32 years
  • Sylvia Sawyer
    Acquisitions & Gov. Docs. Assistant – 25 years
  • David Underwood
    Professor of Art & Director of Art Department Exhibitions – 35 years
  • Dr. Stephen Wright
    Professor of Biology – 34 years
