Carson-Newman alumnus featured in Feb. 1 benefit concert

(Jan. 24, 2018) – Carson-Newman University alumnus Garrett Martin will present a concert of organ music Thursday, Feb. 1 at 7:30 pm in the Tarr Music Building’s Thomas Recital Hall on campus.

The Alpha Gamma chapter of Delta Omicron is presenting the concert as their Spring Benefit Musicale.

The 2008 C-N alumnus holds an undergraduate music degree from Carson-Newman, as well as a master’s of music degree from the University of Texas at Austin in sacred music and organ performance. He also holds a performer’s certificate in organ and accompanying from Vanderbilt University’s Blair School of Music.

Martin is in demand as a church musician, conductor and recitalist. He has won prizes in organ improvisation and organ literature competitions.

Since 2013, Martin has served as the organist and director of music at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Buffalo, New York, where he directs and oversees the church’s five choirs and the Westminster Choir School.

General admission tickets are $6 while student tickets are $2. Tickets may be purchased at the door. All proceeds from the concert benefit the Delta Omicron scholarship fund for music students.
